Today, I couldn’t find Happy.
I peered inside the cookie box and for a fleeting moment thought I saw her there, but it wasn’t her at all. It was merely Hurt and Sadness wearing a disguise of chocolate chips.
So, I looked somewhere else. “Happy? Where are you?!”
I went into my office and sat down at the computer hoping to find her there, but all I found were the names and pictures of a few dozen fellow travelers in search of Happy, too.
So, off to the store I went hoping that Happy had made her way there and that I could bring her home with me. But, no matter how many aisles I walked down or how many thingamabobs I put into my shopping cart, Happy never appeared.
Back at home, Happy not only seemed to be completely avoiding me, but now Sadness and Hurt were nagging at me to join them in their game.
Grabbing the garden shears, I headed to the front yard. Maybe if I did something productive and useful, Happy would just naturally want to come and join me. (I’ve heard rumors that Happy just can’t stay away from Usefulness and Productivity!)
As sweat beads poured down my face, tears joined them as Sadness and Hurt laughed at my silliness in thinking that Happy would reveal herself today. Sitting in the rocks in between the freshly manicured foliage, I tried to just will Happy into appearing. Minutes passed…no Happy.
Tonight, having told Sadness and Hurt to go on their miserable way, I will go to sleep hoping that with the return of the morning sun, Happy will find her way home.

perhaps not real happiness, but it could bring a little smile, a crack in the door for happy to sneak in. http://pinkrabbitabroad.blogspot.com/2010/07/extra-dessert.html
I'm making a surprise for you. I've been working on it since April.
Oh, see, you can't find her because you are looking in the wrong places. Happy is inside.
Nanu: Thanks! I'll check it out.
Linda: Wow! Curiosity may get the better of me.
ellen: *sigh* Yes...I know, but I'd looked there and couldn't find her there either. I think maybe she was sleeping, but I wanted to be certain that she wasn't lost and unable to find her way back.
You hit me where I live with your post...I totally connected and related. I've been looking for Happy for a very long time. If you find out where she is, could you let me know? Thanks for your sweet honesty...
Tuesday: How about I share my Happy with you? I can't promise that she'll be a true blue friend at all times, but the secret is to always keep the window open so that she can return after she's strayed. Big, big hugs to you. I'm sending Happy over.
Thanks Amy. I'll leave the door open...:)

I love this post - you seem to look in all the same places I do for Happy. Only I don't leave the cookies alone.
I'm back at work after being off a few days (stressful ones at that, visiting my MIL in the nursing home). I'm trying to remember that I prefer routine & that I really am Happy here...
Dear Amy, no no, I won`t allow this. Jump on your magic carpet, heading to my island, and share some self-made Grandma-Amy banana ice-cream with me! I am just reading a book about "satsangs", which means being together in truth, I think. Anyway, they say if someone looks you deep in the eyes and fills you with new energy and peace, all your fear and sorrows will go away. Well, they think of gurus, but let me just do that for you! I love you, my friend! Now hop away, Sorrow, and jump back in, Happy! No need to be afraid anymore.
This is so clever.
You know I think Thomas jefferson really screwed us up when he included "the pursuit of happiness" in the Declaration ...
I don't suppose you looked for Happy in the liquor cabinet or maybe in the freezer in a bottle of vodka.
Ok I'm thinking of something.. (animal, vegetable, or mineral?) Something brilliant? Hope Diamond.
Witty? Samuel Langhorn Clemens.
There, done thinking. Now I can talk. (Hey, I'm a guy.. we don't do both at once. Duh.)
My thought is you need a guy to give you some feedback on these posts.. And Amy.. none of that funny stuff.. I know how you suburban housewives are. I watched TV. Once. Oh.. and nice blogging btw ;-)
